After not presenting an Unsound Festival in the USA for 2013, the event came back with some great shows recently in NYC. The Saturday night (4/5) performance was the debut show at The Wick, a 700 capacity room that is housed in the old Hittleman Brewing building on Meserole St in Bushwick (which also houses sister venue The Well)…

It comes as certain ideas from techno’s fertile, experimental, mid-1990s period are being picked up by a range of underground musicians. Many of these ideas have permeated so deeply into the culture that it’s hard to remember a time without them, but we wouldn’t have Burial, to name just one of the duo’s distant descendants, without Porter Ricks’ seafloor crackle and mottled-granite color scale…

Back in 2011, it was announced that new Brooklyn venue The Wick would open in a former brewery at 260 Meserole St (next to the barely-open outdoor venue The Well), and that venue is finally set to open this March…
