The album was co-produced by the band’s own Sunny Jain and Run the Jewels collaborator Little Shalimar, and it also features Ali Sethi and Suheir Hammad.

Tonight’s NYC-area shows include OMD, David Byrne, Inter Arma, Mind Spiders, Madball, Bhi Bhiman, Alex Cameron, IDLES, Ian Svenonius’ ESCAPE-ISM, and more.

The annual, multi-venue NYC festival also includes Sun Ra Arkestra, Dave Harrington’s Merry Pranksters, Ravi Coltrane paying tribute to Alice Coltrane, Rafiq Bhatia, Red Baraat, and more.

A few years back, Ali Sethi and Sunny Jain met while independently involved in a theatrical collaboration. Sethi, a Pakistani writer and singer, has made a name for himself in recent years as a playback singer (where the singer’s voice is dubbed over the actor, typically found in South Asian films) and also collaborated with the Swet Shop Boys on their track “Aaja.” Sethi is in the process of moving from Lahore to the United States and, while in New York, he and Jain (the NYC based bandleader of Red Baraat) reconnected for a new musical collaboration…

The eight-piece Brooklyn Bhangra band are also touring.

The BRIC House Sessions “will explore a wide array of genres – like a playlist come to life – with musicians who are pushing music forward in extraordinary and inventive ways.”

The free BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn Festival shows in Prospect Park are underway, and they recently hosted Brooklyn brass band Red Baraat with guests on Thursday (7/7). Among those guests were former Das Racist member Heems and punk blues singer Shilpa Ray…
