Marianne Faithfull

Tanya Donelly & Sadie Dupuis honor Marianne Faithfull with "As Tears Go By" for Sunday covers benefit series

Tanya Donelly (of Throwing Muses, The Breeders, and Belly) has launched a new series where she’ll release a cover song each Sunday, with proceeds going to different causes. Her first cover is also a tribute to Marianne Faithfull, who was recently hospitalized with COVID-19. She did “As Tears Goes By,” the Jagger/Richards/Oldham composition that Marianne released as a single in 1964 (and that The Rolling Stones then released their own version of the following year). It’s a great cover, and making it even better is backing vocals from Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis. Tanya writes:

Hello, and welcome to our Sunday cover series, one song chosen weekly from suggestions posted on my socials. Our first pick, As Tears Go By, came up several times, along with wishes for Marianne Faithfull’s full recovery from Covid-19.

Your tips in the tip jar this week go in two directions ~

Project Bread, an organization in need of donations to help provide food for children and families impacted by school shutdowns and lost/suspended income.

Also each week: a different full-time musician/engineer that the Boston music community relies on in the best of times, who might need some support in the worst.

Thank you!! Wishing you all health.
With love from our hideouts to yours,
Tanya, Russell, Joe, and this Sunday’s guest ~ Sadie (Speedy Ortiz, and solo artist)
