Tanya Tagaq named to Order of Canada, touring, playing Lincoln Center

Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq released Retribution back in October which was the follow-up to her Polaris Prize winning 2014 album Animism. On it she takes on the plight of her native Inuit people which she views through a world lens and her unmistakable voice. It also concludes with a striking cover of Nirvana’s “Rape Me.” You can listen to the whole thing, and watch a lecture she did for Red Bull Music Academy, below.

Tanya was just named to the Order of Canada (one of the country’s highest civilian honors) for “her contributions to Canadian culture through her avant-garde Inuit throat singing.” She’s also on tour this year, including a stop in NYC on March 9 at The Appel Room as part of Lincoln Center’s 2017 American Songbook Series. Her performances are one-of-a-kind and tickets are still available. All dates are listed below.
