This year, The Village Voice will throw the first annual Village Voice Pride Awards during the 2017 NYC Pride Week (June 16-25). The awards ceremony will take place on June 21 at Capitale (130 Bowery) and will be hosted by Alan Cumming (who’s working on opening a new club called Club Cumming in the East Village).

Tegan & Sara will be performing at the event, and they say, “Pride is a good time for us to come together and celebrate our wins, but also strategize how we can change the things that still need to be changed. We’re thrilled to have the chance to play the Pride Awards because we love New York, we love The Village Voice, and we love Pride. We’re excited to lend our voices to the cause.” They talk about the Voice Pride Awards, as well as LGBTQ pride and the Tegan and Sara Foundation, in a new video. Watch below.

More news about “surprise guests” at the Voice Pride Awards and ticket info is coming soon.

This is one of two NYC Pride Week events that Tegan & Sara are playing. As mentioned, they’re playing day two (6/24) of Pride Island with Roisin Murphy, Gallant, and more. Tegan & Sara also play NYC’s The Meadows festival in September and are touring the 10th anniversary of The Con later in the year (tickets are on sale for the Kings Theatre show in Brooklyn)

When we first posted about Pride Island — the new three-day cultural experience/concert series taking place at Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 — we mentioned there was a TBA headliner for day three (6/25). It’s since been announced that the headliner will be Nelly Furtado, who’s fresh off releasing her new album The Ride. Tickets for Pride Island are still available.

Day 3 of Pride Island is the same day as The March. Meanwhile, today (5/15) is the last day to register for The March.
