Tegan & Sara - Hey I'm Just Like You

Tegan & Sara releasing new album of lost songs from high school (watch trailer)

Tegan and Sara revisited their teenage years for their upcoming memoir High School, which comes out September 24. In the process, they uncovered some of the first songs they’d ever written, and those songs because the basis for a new album, Hey, I’m Just Like You, due out September 27 via Sire. “While working on our memoir, we discovered lost cassette tapes that had been unheard for over 20 years,” Tegan Quinn says. “They contained dozens of our first songs, written between the ages of 15 and 17…we immediately recognized the songs as an essential part of our high school story.” About recreating the songs in the present, Sara Quinn says, “with only minor tweaks to lyrics and structure, we tried to remain true to the original essence of each song.” They’re calling it a return to their “rock and punk roots, with a punch of pop production.”

A tracklisting for Hey, I’m Just Like You is still to come, as are tour dates and a new single, but that’s the cover art above, and you can watch a trailer for the album with glimpses at teenage Tegan and Sara and a tease of a new song below.

Tegan and Sara also made a “High School: Class of ’98” playlist to accompany their memoir, which contains some choice cuts from the era by Ani DiFranco, The Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, Weezer, The Violent Femmes, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, and more. Listen to that, and watch a trailer for the book, below.
