The Divine Comedy releasing 'Foreverland,' share "How Could You Leave Me On My Own" video

Neil Hannon is set to return with his 11th album as The Divine Comedy. The new record is called Foreverland, his first DivCom LP in six years, and will be out September 2 via PIAS. (Pre-order.) If you’re unfamiliar (few Divine Comedy records have been released in North America), Neil makes droll, baroque, and very very British, like a foppier Kinks circa Village Green Preservation Society. (Hannon also wrote the themes for Graham Linehan’s sitcoms Father Ted and The IT Crowd.) He’s got a way with words and melody and it’s all quite charming.

The new record is no different and finds Hannon in fine form, as you can hear on new single “How Can You Leave Me On My Own’” where he finds himself useless when his other half goes out of town. The video, directed by Raphaël Neal, plays off this idea with Hannon left to his own devices in a French chateau, dressed as monarch types from throughout history. Watch that, and the video for the LP’s harpsichord-filled first single “Catherine the Great,” below.

The Divine Comedy, who haven’t played the U.S. in almost 20 years, still don’t have any plans to head this way, but there are UK dates for the fall and winter. All those are listed below.
