The Gotobeds streaming 'Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic,' will be here this week for Northside

Gotobeds Blood Sugar Secs Traffic

The Gotobeds‘ first album for Sub Pop, Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic, is out this Friday (6/10). Apart from the title, it’s a little less bratty than 2014’s Poor People Are Revolting, with maybe a few less instantly quotable lines. There’s still plenty of indignant thumbing-of-noses, however — particularly toward the music industry (see “Real Maths/Too Much” and the positively virulent “Crisis Time”).  There’s also plenty of shout-a-long choruses and big hooks, drawing on an encyclopedic knowledge of punk, postpunk and indie rock riffage. As PiL once said, anger is an energy. Joe Casey of Protomartyr shows up on the fist-pumping “Why’d You,” while a few songs offer up a sense of regret pernhaps fueled by a difficult breakup. If there’s nothing as immediate as “NY’s Alright” it’s a record that does a better job of holding you through to the end. You can stream the whole album, and check out the video for “Cold Gold” (LA’s Alright)”, below.

As mentioned, The Gotobeds will be in NYC this week for Northside Festival, playing a late show (doors 11:15 PM) Saturday, June 11 at Knitting Factory with B Boys and Comfy (tickets). For those who can’t stay up so late, we might The Gotobeds are playing the Unblinking Ear showcase at Union Pool on Saturday afternoon with SAVAK, Big Quiet, and Honey Radar. (The Gotobeds were the previously-listed “special guests.”) 2 PM start and $10 at the door.
