The Heavy Lowdown: 40 Watt Sun LP news, new Autopsy, Misery Index at MDF +++ more

By Doug Moore

40 Watt Sun at Public Assembly, 2011 (more by Fred Pessaro)

HLD time — let’s get to it. First, some miscellaneous news:

Misery Index have replaced Hemdale at this year’s Maryland Deathfest — they’ll be playing on Sunday. Stream the first single from their aforementioned upcoming album below.

Ex-Warning old-sad-bastard doomsters 40 Watt Sun have announced that they’ve finished writing the followup to 2011’s The Inside Room.

Death metal stalwarts Autopsy have released the first single from their new album (via Noisey). Stream it below.

NYC progressive black metallers Castevet have added a Boston date on 5/18 to their aforementioned tour with Thantifaxath, which stops in NYC on 5/19. See the updated run of dates below.

Whores at Union Pool, 2012 (more by Markus Shaffer)

This is a strong weeekend for shows! Specifically:

TONIGHT (FRIDAY, 3/28): Whores are bringing their tour to Saint Vitus, with support from killer quasi-locals Fight Amp, plus No Way & Creepoid (tickets). NYC acts Psalm Zero & Pyrrhon (full disclosure: I’m a member of the latter), fresh off their own shared tour, will play a joint record release show at Trans Pecos with Stern (feat. members of Kayo Dot) & Penchant. The Children of Bodom / Death Angel / Tyr Halo of Blood tour — which has been sponsoring our weekly East Village Radio show — will hit town for the first of 2 nights at Irving Plaza (tix here).

SATURDAY (3/29): Children of Bodom / Death Angel / Tyr night 2 at Irving Plaza (tix). White Widows Pact, Mad Diesel, Nerve Shatter, & Blackest are playing an ABC No Rio matinee beginning at 3pm. The Ocean & Scale the Summit are playing the Studio at Webster Hall with The Atlas Moth & Silver Snakes, if you’re into that kind of thing (tix). A weirdly singsong-y bill will be at Vitus: Wo Fat, Gozu, Roadsaw, Lo-Pan, Geezer, & Neon Warship (tix).

SUNDAY (3/30): Ringworm & Death Before Dishonor bring their tour to Long Island’s 89 North (in Patchogue; tix here).

Over in the Invisible Oranges corner: We premiered new music by Forteresse, Chasse-Gallerie, Monarque, & Csejthe all at once, as well as from Nux Vomica independently. We shared sweet memories of Craw and Ratt, as well as a bittersweet (but appropriately goofy) tribute to Dave “Oderus Urungus” Brockie of GWAR, who passed away this week. Goodnight, sweet scumdog.

Oh, and we ran down all the metal fit to buy, of course. Check out the aforementioned streams and tour dates below. Anything else?
