The Heavy Lowdown: new Black Anvil, Crowbar, Atlas Moth, YOB, Tombs, Eyehategod, Origin ++ weekend shows +++ more

YOB at the Bell House, 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro)
YOB

As American Express figures out a way to capitalize on metal bands struggling with visas, let’s take a walk on the newswire:

The crushing doom of YOB will wum again. Neurot Recordings announced Clearing The Path To Ascend would shake trees leaf-less sometime in September. Said vocalist Mike Scheidt: “Writing this album felt like being plugged into a main. Emotionally, it’s our heaviest. But it also has some real beauty and light. We dug the deepest we ever have to get to the heart of these tunes.” A trailer appears below.

Neurot also tease the next Ides of Gemini and the beguiling doom outfit’s Old World New Wave, scheduled for September 16. A slightly longer trailer (take that, YOB) is below as well.

Watain have announced their only US show happening this summer and it takes place in Brooklyn on Sunday, June 15 at The Brooklyn Bazaar with Kosmodemonic. “They will presenting their full, arena-sized, wide-scale stage ritual — a harsh and wild ceremony of Blood, Fire, and Death…”. Get your tickets to the ‘Blackened Music Series’ show which is being presented by The Bunce Group, Brooklyn Bazaar and The Northside Festival.

Punk/thrash crossover act English Dogs have signed with Candlelight Records. The band began their life in the early ’80s as punks with light thrash influences and ended the decade recording Metallica songs prime Metallica got too big to execute. The Thing With Two Heads is the name of their upcoming long-player, thus ending a near 20 year gap between full-lengths.

Crusty black n’ rolling dudes Martyrdöd just wrapped up Elddrop, their next album. No official release date yet, but Southern Lord is eying August.

Geoff Tate is inspired by truck stops? Geoff Tate is inspired by truck stops. Ah, the silent lucidity of stalls that don’t lock.

Powerviolence rippers Boddicker are hitting the road with Nuclear Hellfrost. The tour careens through the Midwest and into the East Coast over June and early July. The pummeling package will slide into The Acheron on July 8. All dates are listed below.

Finally, Children of Technology, the Italian speed metal punks, are targeting August 19 for Future Decay (Hells Headbangers). Despite the name, expect tons of fun deviations into ’80s grindhouse fare.

Don’t forget: Keep up with the rest of our metal coverage during the week.

Crowbar
Crowbar

Now that you’re, ahem, fully briefed, let’s recap all of the A/V transmissions (most or all of which are streaming below):

A few highlights from next week’s new releases are getting full streams: Blackened thrashers Black Anvil have put up Hail Death (Relapse Records) and iconic Southern sludgers Crowbar are providing the full Symmetry in Black (eOne Music) treatment. Physical copies hit the street May 27.

Eyehategod‘s Decibel-only flexi single has hit the web. “The Liar’s Psalm” is an exclusive b-side presumably from the same sessions that created their comebacker Eyehategod, also available on May 27 by Horrorcore Records. The band is preparing for a knock-out tour this summer.

The Atlas Moth are streaming another new song, “City of Light.” It’s from The Old Believer, which will drop courtesy of Profound Lore on June 10 and features some nifty artwork. Listen below. The stacked tour of Boris, Atlas Moth, and SubRosa will kick off in July.

Tombs have released the third stream from Savage Gold (June 10, Relapse). “Spirals” showcases yet another mode of attack for the varied boomers. Listen below.

Another Origin song has surfaced. This one is entitled “All Things Dead” and comes with news Origin will be touring Europe in addition to their slot on the Summer Slaughter tour. Omnipresent is out July 8 on Nuclear Blast. (Preorder.)

Blackened bangers Mutilation Rites have issued “Suffer the Children” as a seven inch, backed by a Doom and Discharge cover. The single is on Prosthetic Records and teases the band’s forthcoming album Harbinger, which will be available on July 22. Mutilation Rites recently stopped in and premiered a new song on the final Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio show. (Woe.)

Epic power dealers Darkest Era are streaming “Trapped in the Hourglass” from Severance. In a rare turn, Cruz Del Sur will put the record out in America (June 3) ten days before Europe. Lord over all your Euro friends on Twitter. “I’m sorry, I can’t reply because DARKEST ERA. HA HA HA, I’M IN THE FUTURE.”

Folk metallers Vintersorg have shot their first video. The visual accompanies “Lågornas rov,” the inaugural single from Naturbål. The album will see release July 8 on Napalm Records. Points to the person who recuts it to The Ohio Player’s “Fire.” Watch elow.

Speaking of folk metal, the previously mentioned One And All, Together, For Home is streaming in full. The Drudkh curated collection of standards and regional fare collects folk metallers from around the world to put their distinctive spin on their nation’s sound. The compilation is out on Season of Mist.

Fredrick Thordendal’s contribution to the Wolfenstein: The New Order soundtrack is available for free download. If you can rig your house to have it play as entry music, you’re doing things right.

Corrupt Moral Altar, the uncompromising UK death groovers, have offered up “Die Glocke” from Mechanical Tides. The album is out on Season of Mist July 22 and includes guest spots from Napalm Death’s Mitch Harris and Carcass’ Jeff Walker. (Preorder.)

Now, time to sprint through the rest of the underground:

Zoldier Noiz are doling out “Random Justice.” The tech-y punk thrasher will appear on Regression Process on the thrash imprint of Darkness Descends, Unspeakable Axe, on May 27.

The weirdo, ex-Reverend Bizarre Opium Warlords have captured an additional alternate plane transmission from Taste My Sword of Understanding. “In Melancholy Moonless Acheron” closes out the album to be released by Svart Records on May 30.

Blackened thrashers Witchaven dropped a trailer for Blood Sacrifice, due out via Grey Haven Media in June.

Death Vomit
Death Vomit

The primal death metal nightmare Death Vomit — the greatest Magic the Gathering card never printed — will release Gutted by Horrors through Xtreem Music on July 1. “Indestructible Abominations”‘s filth has been provided as a warning shot.

Norwegian widdlers Insense are issuing De:Evolution today by way of Mas-Kina Recordings. Stream the album in its entirety below.

Subtly named thrashcore hellions Fucking Invincible (Dropdead, Daughters) are streaming “Ape As Man/Man As Ape” from It’ll Get Worse Before It Gets Better. The LP will see release sometime in July.

Finally, couple free comps are out: Hells Headbangers’ Volume 7 brings together the label’s kvltest and darkest while Church of Fuck — always my census response — mine their roster of core, noise, and general rawness on False Metal Eternal.

Check out all noted streams below.

Got it? Good. To shows we go:

TODAY (5/23): Despite the best efforts of the US government to keep bands away, most of the metal world is down in Maryland this week for Maryland Deathfest. Still, there are a few cool happenings around town. First, the potentially loudest: The touring Prizehog, Vaz, Mossenek, and Collapsible Baton at Saint Vitus. (Tickets.) Want hardcore? Got you covered: Sheer Terror, Agitator, and Cop Problem will provide plenty of anthems at Brooklyn Night Bazaar for their free showcase. More NYHC? Okay, how about On the Offense, Menopaws, Weird and Pissed Off, Nerves End, and Zombie Fight at The Trash. $10 admission at the door and the show will be followed by Kings of Karaoke. Your voice will be appropriately fried for that “Fancy” rendition.

TOMORROW (5/24): If you’re a punk, consider your afternoon and night booked. First up, Left for Dead, Altered Boys, and Jukai play an afternoon matinee at Saint Vitus. (Tickets.) Then, Violent Reaction, The Flex, Altered Boys, MFP, and Closet Case invade The Acheron. (Tickets.) A double shot of Altered Boys. You’re going to be friends.

Looking for late adds and dates ahead? NYC Metal Show Calendar has got you covered.

Moonsorrow
Moonsorrow

Let’s talk IO: We had a few neat streams this week, including the full album from the evil Vanhelgd and an absolute burner from the violent ACxDC. Over the weekend, we hit up Scion Rock Fest. Plus, we threw out our backs investigating the new 14 LP Moonsorrow box set. Best of all, we introduced the metal world to Japan’s Funeral Sutra who are set to do big things. And, as is our compulsion, we hoarded every release under the sun for your clicks in Upcoming Metal Releases.

SAD TIME: You can stream our final Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio. EVR may be going away, but the metal spirit will never die.

Alright, consider the decks cleared. What did we miss? What are your plans? Let us know and catch all of the dates, reams of streams, and other noted details below.
