The Helio Sequence announce ‘Keep Your Eyes Ahead’ 10th anniversary tour
It's been 10 years since PacNW indie rock duo The Helio Sequence released their fourth and still-best album Keep Your Eyes Ahead (on Sub Pop), and they'll celebrate the anniversary by performing it in full on tour this fall. It was the first album they made after singer/guitarist Brandon Summers lost his voice and had to re-train it, and the experience resulted in Brandon's voice sounding better than ever. Songwriting wise, the band were at the top of their game on this album too, and they successfully fit all kinds of stuff on the LP, from the dance-punk title track to the folky "Shed Your Love" to the anthemic, widescreen rock of "Hallelujah" to the introspective ballad "Lately" to the eccentric indie rock of "Can't Say No," which admittedly but subconsciously borrowed a melody from "Gravity Rides Everything" by Modest Mouse (who The Helio Sequence's Benjamin Weikel drummed for in the 2000s). It's a nearly flawless album -- if an underrated one -- and it holds up super well today.
The tour includes a Brooklyn show with local support from Wild Pink, who are currently riding high off the strength of this year's breakthrough Yolk in the Fur, which pairs very well with Keep Your Eyes Ahead. That show happens December 1 at Elsewhere, and tickets go on sale Friday (8/24) at 10 AM.
All dates are listed, with a full stream of Keep Your Eyes Ahead and the video for the title track, below.
