The Messthetics, the instrumental trio made up of Fugazi's rhythm section (Brendan Canty and Joe Lally) and experimental/jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog, have announced their self-titled debut album which will be out via Dischord on March 23. The record was recorded mostly live by Brendan at the band's practice space and you may recognize the clang of the large bell he resurrected from his Fugazi days. You can check out "Serpents Tongue," which is pretty fierce, fiery stuff, showing the power of Canty and Lally as they power Pirog's skronky virtuoso shredding. Check it out below.

You can catch The Messthetics on tour this spring, including a NYC show at The Bell House on April 20 with previous tourmates SAVAK (who also play with them in Hamden, CT) and Sunwatchers. Tickets for the Bell House show go on sale Wednesday, January 31 at 10 AM.

Brendan Canty also starred in the Portlandia season 8 premiere.
