The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle doing new podcast with "Night Vale" creator
The Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle has kept pretty busy this year among various mediums, releasing the project’s great new record Goths earlier this year, as well as putting out his second novel, Universal Harvester. Today, it was announced that Darnielle, along with Welcome to Night Vale podcast creator Joseph Fink, have created a new podcast, aptly titled I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats.
The new podcast features Darnielle and Fink in conversation, discussing The Mountain Goats’ prolific discography, as well as featuring many special guests. The two will also discuss current events, songwriting, storytelling, and related interests. Season 1 will entail a song-by-song breakdown of The Mountain Goats’ sixth album All Hail West Texas, and each episode will feature a cover version of the song discussed that week. Contributing artists include Andrew Bird, Amanda Palmer, and Dessa. The podcast is set to premiere on September 28. The Mountain Goats just started their North American tour, which hits Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on November 10 (tickets), and NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on November 12 (tickets).
