The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle's favorite albums of 2019
The Mountain Goats continued their prolific run of releases in 2019, following 2017’s Goths with the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired In League with Dragons. They did plenty of touring in support of it too, and perhaps frontman John Darnielle kept up with 2019 releases during all those miles logged. He’s shared a list of his favorite albums of the year with Merge Records, and you can read it below. John let the world know he was an Inter Arma fan from when he wore their shirt on Colbert earlier this year, and sure enough, their album Sulphur English, which he wrote the liner notes to, made his list. So did the late David Berman’s Purple Mountains, one of Big Thief‘s 2019 albums, Cave In‘s final recordings with late bassist and vocalist Caleb Scofield, and much more.
