The Mountain Goats at White Eagle Hall
The Mountain Goats at White Eagle Hall (more by Greg Cristman)

The Mountain Goats‘ new album In League with Dragons is out April 26 and they’ve just shared a new song from it, an upbeat, jazzy, string-filled number called “Cadaver Sniffing Dog.” Owen Pallett did the string arrangements and John Darnielle says he wrote the song on Christmas Day, 2017, “which probably tells you more about me than the song itself could ever hope to.” He adds, “The lyric is a noir vision of a crime scene investigation, and is a metaphor for a relationship in which there is nothing whatsoever left to salvage, because, as I mentioned earlier, it was Christmas, and, being the sort of person who really tries to get into the Christmas spirit, I — well, anyway, please enjoy ‘Cadaver Sniffing Dog.'” You can listen to that below.

The tour for In League with Dragons starts the same day as the album’s release, and hits the NYC area just a few days later for sold-out shows in Brooklyn and Jersey City. The Mountain Goats have just announced more tour dates, including a summer leg with a stop at NJ’s Asbury Lanes on July 22. Tickets for that show are on AmEx presale now and go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 8 at 10 AM.
