The National share “The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness” & tour dates
UPDATE: BROOKLYNVEGAN PRESALE INFO AND A CHANCE TO WIN FREE TICKETS HERE.
After teasing it for a while, yesterday details crept out that The National's new album will be called Sleep Well Beast and will be released on September 8 via 4AD. Today, more details have been revealed and the first single, "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness," has been released. The album was produced by Aaron Dessner with co-production from his brother Bryce and Matt Berninger. It was mixed by frequent collaborator Peter Katis. Artwork and tracklist below.
"The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" has a Casey Reas-directed video, and the song has hints of The National's trademark sound but also something new. The guitars are noticeably rawer and even dive into a classic rock-style solo at one point (maybe influenced by all the work they did on that Grateful Dead tribute album). Matt's also singing louder and more in the upper register on this one. As far as National songs go, this one's a rocker. Watch the video below.
The band also announced a world tour, which includes their previously-announced Forest Hills Stadium show on October 6 with Daughter. Tickets for that show (and the whole tour) go on presale Monday, May 15 with a public on-sale beginning Friday, May 19. There's also a BrooklynVegan presale for the Forest Hills show. Stay tuned for more info.
