The Notorious B.I.G.'s childhood "one-room shack" in Brooklyn renting for $4000

The late, legendary The Notorious B.I.G. referenced his childhood home in several of his songs, like in his trademark hit “Juicy,” and now his former “one-room shack” home in Brooklyn is available for rent. As the New York Post notes, Biggie Smalls’ 972-square-foot apartment at 226 St. James Place in Clinton Hill, refurbished with new floors, appliances and countertops, could be yours for just $4000 per month. Here’s the full Compass listing for the apartment:

No pets?!?! The Clinton Hill neighborhood today has changed a lot from the one described in Biggie’s lyrics.. As Fabienne Lecole, the apartment’s real estate agent told the Post, “It’s so calm and residential now. It’s hard to imagine it’s the same street that he sang about with all the drugs and gunfire. It couldn’t be more different.” Another real estate agent told the Post, “The neighborhood is all hipsters and millennials. People in finance and tech people.”

The apartment, which sold in 2013 for $825,000 and is being rented by the owner, is located on the block at St. James Place between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street that was renamed “Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace Way” in a special ceremony honoring the rapper earlier this month.
