Old Firm Casuals

The Old Firm Casuals touring; Into Another cancel shows

Rancid guitarist/co-lead vocalist Lars Frederiksen is always busy with a project or two on the side, and for the past eight years he’s also fronted the band The Old Firm Casuals, whose second full-length album Holger Danske comes out today. The last Rancid album (2017’s Trouble Maker) was a pretty great return to form, but if you miss the edge of Rancid’s hardcore-inspired 2000 album or the harder songs on their first two LPs, then Holger Danske should do a great job of quenching your thirst. Outside of the title track (which is an enjoyable update of punky ’90s alternative rock), this album varies between mile-a-minute hardcore and boot-stomping street punk, and it’s ripper after ripper.

Rancid offshoot The Old Firm Casuals are hitting the road this summer behind their great new album Holger Danske (that’s an excerpt of what I wrote about it for Notable Releases above). The tour includes their appearance at Philly’s This Is Hardcore, plus shows with Into Another, The Take, Section H8, Spiritual Cramp, and more.

The run includes a Brooklyn show on July 31 at Saint Vitus with both The Take and The Royal Hounds opening. Tickets are on sale now.

The DC show is with The Take and NYC post-hardcore vets Into Another, who will be playing their 1994 Revelation Records-released sophomore album Ignaurus in full. Into Another are also playing that album in full at This Is Hardcore and at one other club show: a hometown date at Saint Vitus on July 25 with I Hate Our Freedom and High Disciple (mem Texas Is The Reason, Jets To Brazil, etc). Tickets for Into Another’s Vitus show are on sale now too.

UPDATE: Into Another had to cancel all three shows for medical reasons. They write:

Dear friends,

We are postponing the announced shows in NY, PA and DC due to an unforeseen medical diagnosis and the necessity for timely treatment. In the near future we will elaborate. Please accept our profound and sincere apologies.

Thanks and love,
Into Another

In related news, Rancid just brought The Bash to NJ (but had their set cut short by weather). The Bash continues in other cities and you can win VIP tickets. Rancid are also playing Riot Fest.

All Old Firm Casuals dates are listed, with streams of Holger Danske and Ignaurus, below.

Meanwhile, The Take (members of Biohazard, Spudmonsters, Madball, Agnostic Front, and more) are releasing their self-titled debut album on July 5 via Demons Run Amok, and you can watch the video for lead single “Elitist” — which pairs very well with The Old Firm Casuals’ street punk — below too.
