The Pretty Things share two new covers recorded before Phil May’s passing
Phil May, singer of '60s beat/psych group The Pretty Things (whose SF Sorrow is widely regarded as the first rock opera), sadly passed away last week at age 75, and today the band have shared two of the last recordings that they made with Phil after retiring from live electric performances in December 2018: a cover of Gillian Welch's "The Devil Had A Hold Of Me" and a cover of Will Varley's "To Build A Wall." They're both haunting, grizzled takes, and a press release notes that they're both from a "stripped back new album due for release later this year." Stay tuned and listen below.
