Boston punks The Proletariat may get lumped in with other hardcore acts from the era like fellow This Is Boston, Not L.A. contributors Jerry's Kids, Gang Green and The Freeze, but they had an artier sound with a heavy Gang of Four influence (frontman Richard Brown called Entertainment his favorite album ever in a recent Noisey interview), and decidedly Marxist lyrics. Their heyday was back in the early 80s, but now after being inactive for a very long time they are reuniting, reissuing their debut album, and playing a handful of reunion shows on the east coast. They talked more about their sound in that Noisey interview:

I think our sound had elements of hardcore but it also had more traditional punk trimmings and, this might sound crazy, some funkiness. I have been told that we were included on BNLA [the legendary We Are Boston, Not LA compilation] because we were "similar" in sound to the young hardcore bands, but mostly because we were "further along" musically and had a small following outside the hc scene.

First off, that reissue is of their album Soma Holiday, which is coming via Sol Re Sol Records on October 21. They've shared a video for the song "Events Repeat" which gives you a good idea of their sound. Watch below.

The shows they're playing in support of the reissue include one in NYC. They'll be at Saint Vitus on November 5 for a matinee show at 2 PM. Tickets for that go on sale Friday (9/9) at noon. All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, Gang Green, who have been reunited for much longer, are playing some shows of their own. They have a NYC show coming up this weekend at Sunnyvale on Saturday (9/10), where they'll be joined by Antagonizers ATL and 45 Adaptors. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All of their dates are listed below too.
