Sweden’s The Radio Dept are back with “The Absence of Birds,” their first new single since 2018 which is out via their own Just So! label. “‘The Absence of Birds’ is a song about missing someone,” say the band. “And about forcing the hand of chance to make new and unexpected things happen.” This one is very much in their hushed folky mode and you can listen below. The single also includes a cover of the song by Civilistjävel! and the band say to expect more music from them this year: “ten or more songs will be released in some way or another during 2020.” Stay tuned.

The Radio Dept have also just announced a spring North American tour with fellow Swedes Hater, which kicks off April 26 in Washington, DC and then heads to Philly, NYC (Webster Hall on April 28), Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, St. Paul, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Tickets for Webster Hall and the whole tour go on sale Friday, February 7 at 10 AM local with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.

In other news, The Radio Dept are reissuing their 2006 album Pet Grief in March via Just So! and preorders are being taken now. You can listen to that album below.
