The Roots, SZA, Lil Baby, H.E.R & more playing virtual Roots Picnic & voter registration drive

The 2020 edition of Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic was originally scheduled to happen at Fairmount Park on May 30. It was later rescheduled to August 1 because of COVID-19, but now the festival has announced it’s going virtual this year. Joining forces with Michelle Obama‘s When We All Vote nonprofit, the 13th annual Roots Picnic will stream on YouTube on Saturday, June 27 at 8 PM ET.

Questlove, Black Thought and Michelle Obama host the livestream, and The Roots, H.E.R., Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, SZA, Kirk Franklin, Snoh Aalegra, D-Nice, Polo G, G Herbo, Musiq Soulchild, and Earthgang will perform. The evening is also set to include appearances from Janelle Monae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Tom Hanks, Liza Koshy, Chris Paul, Elaine Welteroth, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Deon Cole, Coach K, Wallo267, and Ghetto Gastro.

They’ll be encouraging people to sign up to vote throughout the broadcast, and volunteers can sign up to help with that effort and register for a Zoom webinar on reaching voters.
