After three albums of power pop-ish DIY indie-punk, Cleveland's The Sidekicks signed to larger label Epitaph Records and released 2015's Runners in the Nerved World, which was produced by Phil Ek and had more than a few hints of such Phil Ek-recorded bands as Band of Horses and The Shins. They've been busy on the road but pretty quiet in terms of new music, and now they're finally ready to release their second album for Epitaph (and fifth overall), Happiness Hours. It comes out on May 18, and this time they teamed with producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, etc). The first single is "Twin's Twist," which is a nice dose of power pop that's a little brighter than what The Sidekicks usually do (it matches the album artwork and title well) and includes a lyrical reference to Dr Dre. The Sidekicks have also announced a short May tour, including a Brooklyn show on May 23 at Alphaville. Tickets for that show will be on sale soon. All dates are listed below.
