The Stroppies prep new LP 'Levity,' touring with Paul Weller (stream "The Perfect Crime")

Melbourne, Australia’s The Stroppies have announced new album Levity, which will be out May 6 via Tough Love. This follows 2019’s Whoosh! and 2020’s Look Alive!, both of which are worth checking out.

Like so many records coming out right now, this one was made under lockdown conditions. “The restrictions around COVID really informed the way we made the record’, says guitarist Angus Lord. “It meant that there was a lot less opportunity to meet and build ideas collaboratively, which is how we’ve worked in the past. Instead, ideas were developed in isolation, then shared digitally, developing slowly over correspondence and only bearing fruit when we were able to be in a room together. I think this had a big effect on the songwriting and execution.”

The first single from the album is “The Perfect Crime,” a strummy earworm that sets its guitarist against a naggingly catchy vocal sample. Fans of ’80s/’90s janglepop or synthy stuff like The Rentals should listen now.

The Stroppies have been tapped by Paul Weller to open his Spring UK tour, and those dates are listed below.
