The Tallest Man on Earth
Lady Lamb

I hadn't been to Connecticut's College Street Music Hall since one of the first shows there (Polaris and Mates of State) last year and, at the time, the venue hadn't even been finished yet. Over a year later, I returned to the downtown New Haven spot on July 1st for the first night of The Tallest Man on Earth's current tour. The venue's upstairs was complete and, though I wouldn't say the space has much charm, it is a great place to experience live music as the lights and sound system are superb.

Kristian Matsson's voice was finely honed and he sounded awesome while flitting across the stage and alternating between solo numbers and songs with his four piece band. Fortunately, his lofty spirits weren't dashed by the "fake wolves of New Haven" as he put it. There were several in the audience who felt comfortable shouting at him (actually howling at one point) even after he implored that he had crafted quiet songs.

The Tallest Man on Earth performed for over 100 minutes, regularly engaging the audience and carelessly tossing off guitar pics. The set included his happy song "Timothy", as well as the many more desolate tunes from his most recent album Dark Bird is Home and the rest of his catalog plus his newest "Time of the Blue."

Lady Lamb opened the night with a strong performance. She noted she was happy to be back on tour with Matsson and happier to meet fans at the merch booth. While Aly Spaltro performed solo in New Haven, she'll have a full band for some of the upcoming dates on their tour. Check out those dates below.
