The The announce North American tour, working on new LP too

After releasing a Record Store Day single in 2018, Matt Johnson’s The The are officially back and are embarking on the “Comeback Special” tour this year — the group’s first tour in 16 years — playing dates in the UK and Ireland this summer, and then hitting North America this fall which will be their first in 18 years. Only a few dates have been announced on this side of the Atlantic, but they include two NYC shows: Brooklyn Steel on September 16 and Beacon Theatre on September 17. Tickets for Brooklyn Steel and Beacon Theatre go on sale Friday, April 6 at noon.

As to who will be in the band for these dates, Johnson says, “All I can say for now is that I have chosen one musician from each of the three band line-ups from my three world tours. Plus, there will be one new face.” Let’s hope Johnny Marr is one of them. Matt Johnson also says a new LP is in the works. “Yes, I’m feeling inspired and have already started writing it. I’m hoping to begin recording sessions later this year but this all depends on our touring schedule.”

Other North American dates on the “Comeback Special” include Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, the Detroit area, and San Francisco. All tour dates are listed below.
