DJ Harvey @ Sunday Best @ the BKLYN Yard - September 6, 2009

While technically it is still summer, many seasonal dance parties including Warm Up (Warm Up extended!), the Beach Party, and Sunday Best had their last hurrahs last weekend. Luckily there is still plenty to do. Here's what happening this weekend starting with Saturday (9/12):

Saturday (9/12)

There are a couple of disco-fied happenings Saturday night - Holy Ghost bring disco with some modern touches to the Discovery party at Santos. High Rollers at Brooklyn Bowl boasts a diverse disco line-up with both deejays (Mike Simonetti from Italians Do It Better, Eamon Harkin, and Justin Carter) and a live performance from Glass Candy. Info on both parties below:

Free with RSVP.

If you're looking for something a little more house-oriented, check out DJ Jus-Ed at 12-turn-13. His set at Sunday Best back in June was excellent, and you can download it at the top of this post. More info on Saturday's party and the rest of the line-up here:

Halcyon is celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary with an all day rager happening from noon until 2 am at Water Taxi Beach (South Street Seaport). The amount they have planned for the celebration is staggering. Details on the flyer below, and more info here and on the Halcyon blog:

Felix Da Housecat has been very busy lately. His new album
He Was King just came out last month on Nettwerk Records (he made his own video for one of its tracks, "Kickdrum", which you can view below) and there's an album release party with the Cat himself and Tommie Sunshine at 213 North 8th Street in Williamsburg.

Also on Saturday (9/12):

- Justin Miller and Jacques Renault are at Lit.
- The typically classic disco-oriented party Play It Loud changes things up with a classic house & techno night at Public Assembly.

- Theophilus London at Santos
- Nicky Siano deejays Water Taxi Beach at the South Street Seaport every Saturday night.

While I spent a good part of last Sunday at Electric Zoo, I couldn't let myself miss the last Sunday Best of the summer, especially after all the great experiences I had there (plus DJ Harvey was the special guest!) When I arrived right around 7, there was a line to get in (something I had never experienced at the BKLYN Yard before). Once I entered 10 minutes or so later I could not believe the crowd inside - I had never seen so many people packed in there. Harvey's set was already in full swing, as were the dancing masses who had crowded literally every inch of dancefloor, and were quickly expanding over much of the BKLYN Yard. After hours of great, classic disco that seemed like it was never going to end...the night inevitably did, with every body in sight getting down in what was a bittersweet ending celebration of a great streak of Sunday summer dance parties.

This Sunday (9/13):

With deejay sets from ddpesh and TheMusic.FM. More info here.
