The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die will release their second album and first for Epitaph, Harmlessness, on September 25 (pre-order), and today they put out its second single. As “Getting Sodas” from the last album proved, TWIABP are often at their best on the longer sprawled-out songs, and the new 7+ minute “I Can Be Afraid Of Anything” is no exception to this.

Singer David Bello told Stereogum how the song is about dealing with depression/anxiety and finally having motivation again once you’ve sought help. That gives the song a looming sadness, especially in the first half (“I’m carrying this empty bucket / I wanna empty myself”), but really it’s one of the most hopeful-sounding songs they’ve ever written. The song’s two halves are separated by a middle section that begins with the band belting “I really did dig my own hole… and I’m climbing out!” Then they speed up, (winkingly?) lift the guitar riff from Brand New’s “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows,” cue the strings, and make the most triumphant-sounding music we’ve heard from them yet. “You can smell life here, what we call life above the ground,” David Bello sings as the band is in a purely joyous, upbeat mode. It’s a great song, and you should listen below.

TWIABP’s tour with Foxing (who also have an LP on the way) hits NYC on 12/3 at MHOW. Tickets for that show are still available.
