Thin Lips (ex-Dangerous Ponies) opening for Hop Along and playing other dates (stream their new EP)

by Andrew Sacher

Thin Lips

One of the openers on Hop Along‘s upcoming tour is their Philly neighbors Thin Lips, who play both NYC shows. Thin Lips are a good match, because both bands share a knack for crunchy power pop and powerhouse vocals. Thin Lips singer Chrissy Tashjian used to front the band Dangerous Ponies (maybe you caught them in Brooklyn with Laura Stevenson and Lady Lamb?), who recorded a lot of their stuff with producer Joe Reinhart (now of Hop Along). Fellow Dangerous Ponies members Kyle Pulley and Michael Tashjian (Chrissy’s brother) back her in Thin Lips, and Michael and a couple other DP members are now in The Weaks, who collaborated with Hop Along singer Frances Quinlan and also named a song after her (which is also a Nirvana pun).

Their debut EP, Divorce Year, is due next week (5/5) via Seagreen Records (pre-order), and — perhaps not surprisingly, given their history playing together — it has Thin Lips sounding like a seasoned and confident band right out of the gate. A full stream premieres below.

Thin Lips and Hop Along will hit NYC on May 5 at Rough Trade, which also has Crying on the bill, and May 10 at Baby’s All Right. Tickets for Rough Trade and Baby’s are still available. Thin Lips have other dates without Hop Along too. All are listed, with the EP stream, below.
