Thom Yorke - ANIMA

Thom Yorke announces new solo album 'ANIMA'

After teasing new solo music and announcing tour dates, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has officially announced his new solo album ANIMA, due out June 27 via XL Recordings. See the album’s tracklisting below; a bonus track, “(Ladies & Gentlemen, Thank You for Coming)” will also appear only on vinyl. Along with the digital, CD, and double vinyl editions, a deluxe double vinyl book is available for preorder, and it includes the album’s lyrics and “many strange drawings done in pencil by Stanley Donwood & Dr Tchock.” More info about the 40-page book: “printed onto Italian Fedrigoni Special Brown material paper and section sewn, the book is made up with an exposed orange cloth spine and orange gilt edging and finished with Bodonian Binding.”

In addition to the album, Thom is releasing a “one reeler” short film by Paul Thomas Anderson, also called ANIMA, and soundtracked by three songs from the new album. It’s screening in select IMAX theaters on June 26 and comes to Netflix on June 27; watch a trailer for it below.

Ahead of the album’s announcement, Thom shared a video of ANIMA projections on NYC’s Guggenheim Museum. As multiple r/radiohead users pointed out, the projections look similar to those in unreleased track “Two Feet Off The Ground,” which was previously played during a 2015 rag & bone runway fashion show and appeared on setlists during Thom’s 2018 solo dates with Nigel Godrich and Tarik Barri.

Another ad for the now slightly less mysterious “Anima Technologies” also appeared in today’s AM New York, following a similar ad that appeared in the Dallas Observer previously.

Thom goes on a North American tour with Nigel and Tarik in support of the new material starting in September. See all of his upcoming dates below.
