Atlanta is always insightful and witty and gorgeous to look at, but rarely has the series been as flat-out funny as this week's episode, "Barbershop," which focused on the indignities rapper Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) must suffer just to get a good haircut. (Few people do exasperated eye-rolls like Henry, and he gets real a workout here.) The show doesn't use a lot of score, it's usually source music, but "Barbershop" featured sparing bits of jazzy, groovy music written just for the show by Thundercat and Flying Lotus. The episode was directed series creator Donald Glover (who didn't appear in this episode), and one of the show's producer/directors is Hiro Murai who directed FlyLo's "Never Catch Me." You can watch a preview of the episode below and you can watch it over at FX.

Thundercat played a live set at a private party in Ridgewood earlier this week that also featured a DJ set from Mike D.

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is touring later this year, and you can see Flying Lotus live at David Lynch's NYC festival.
