Sonos, the wifi speaker makers, have opened a NYC flagship store in SoHo at 101 Greene St that features seven listening rooms that they describe as “acoustically tuned, ‘tiny homes’ that simulate a multi-room listening experience.” Each are decorated by a different artist, and one of them includes a display of cassette tapes by Thurston Moore. Also of interest at the Sonos store is a display of NYC music zines Arthur, New York Rocker, and East Village Eye from curator Arthur Fournier, and the entrance to the store features an enormous hand-painted portrait of Rick Rubin.

The Sonos store opens Tuesday, July 19 at noon. El-P, Thurston Moore, Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem/Juan Maclean, Kyp Malone from TV on the Radio, Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools, etc), Sonos Sound Experience Leader Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) and others are supposed to be in attendance.

There are other events at the NYC Sonos Store on the horizon including, a happy hour on July 20 from 5-7 PM “hosted by local wine curators, brewers, and distillers.” Greenpoint’s Frankel’s Delicatessen, which is co-owned Alex of Holy Ghost! (and has El-P and Despot involved too), will host a listening session and a tasting on July 22 from 12 – 2 PM; and Pitchfork Radio will host a live broadcast on opening weekend with various artists and special guests.

A few more pics of the store, more details on the events, as well as a promotional video featuring EL-P, below.
