Ticketmaster posts initial lists of concerts available for free vouchers
As mentioned, Ticketmaster finally settled the 1999 lawsuit over exorbitant service charges and handling fees, giving about 50 million customers discount codes in the form of $2.25 off Ticketmaster purchases, $5 off UPS delivery, and $10 million in ticket vouchers for concerts through May 2017. Those vouchers are exclusively being handled by Live Nation and the list of available concerts was posted today. They include concerts (mostly big Amphitheater/arena shows) by Alabama Shakes, Weezer, Bob Dylan, Def Leppard, Snoop Dogg, Steely Dan, Kurt Vile, and The Cure and others in the next few weeks.
They don’t exactly make it easy for you to find out which shows near you work with vouchers. All the shows, nationwide, are listed by date with no ability to sort by region. Searching through the pages of listings, there are ZERO voucher-accepted shows in NYC (there are some upstate) but lots in NJ: Steely Dan at BB&T Pavilion (NJ) on 7/3, Weezer & Panic! At the Disco at BB&T on 7/5, Steely Dan at PNC Bank Arts Center (NJ) on 7/6, Hall & Oates at BB&T on 7/10 and PNC on 7/12, Def Leppard at PNC on 7/13, Duran Duran at BB&T on 7/20, Black Sabbath at BB&T on 9/19, Prophets of Rage at BB& on 9/19, and more. Other cities have some “cooler” voucher shows, like The Cure in NC, and Brand New/Modest Mouse in Miami and Boston.
Mind you, even if you find a voucher-accepted show you’d like to go to, you could still be out of luck. Ticketmaster language on vouchers says (with our bolding):
This code is potentially redeemable for two General Admission tickets for certain Live Nation concert events subject to availability and limitations. Please be aware that due to limited availability, we expect these settlement ticket codes to be redeemed quickly.
The New York Times reports that attempts to use the codes for discounts or free tickets on two listed events — Kenny Chesney in Virginia Beach, and the San Francisco Symphony — returned error messages on Tuesday. You can, however, combine the $2.25 off Ticketmaster orders. If you’ve bought stuff through Ticketmaster between 1999 and 2013 you probably have a bunch of them waiting in the “Active Vouchers” section of your Ticketmaster account profile. Seeing them is another story, as all this news has Ticketmaster “experiencing overwhelming load” to their systems and your Active Voucher page probably won’t load right now:
