Titus Andronicus announce Bob Mould-produced LP, share first single, touring

Titus Andronicus have just announced their sixth album, An Obelisk, which will be out June 21 via Merge. They made the record at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago with Bob Mould producing. (Bob had Titus open for him on tour last year.) Frontman Patrick Stickles tells Stereogum that while working on previous albums could sometimes be a hazy experience, the band brought their A-game here, not wanting to disappoint Bob. “Nobody wanted to get on his shit list. Nobody wanted him walking out of there saying, ‘What a bunch of bums these guys are.’ We wanted to rise to the occasion, you could say.” The result, at 38 minutes, is Titus’ leanest album to date, and you can listen to first single “(I Blame) Society,” which definitely has a whiff of Mould’s roaring style in it (The Clash, too), below.

The band will celebrate An Obelisk‘s release at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on June 21 and then has July dates in DC, Carrboro, NC, Fredericksburg, VA and Philly. Tickets for Rough Trade go on sale soon. All tour dates are listed, along with album art and tracklist, below.
