Hitmaker, producer, rock star, general music legend/eccentric Todd Rundgren will release his new album, Global, on April 7. He's going on tour as well, and will play NYC at Highline Ballroom on May 5 & 6. Tickets for those NYC show are on sale now.

Joining Todd as part of his band and as tour DJ is Stones Throw artist Dam-Funk -- in fact the band for this tour is Todd, Dam and two backup singers. Dam has been an admirer of Rundgren and has dropped some of Todd's songs into his sets for some time. He told LA Record in 2009:

He has heart! It wasn't about hits, even though he could make hits. That's the aesthetic I like to align myself with. Hits are hits, and they're great. But the music I gravitate to, it's not on the radio. I always wanna do music for that person who was me. That kid who ventures off looking for music that touches their soul.

Dam-Funk is finishing up his own new album, Invite The Light, which should be out later this year.

In other news, Todd has collaborated with a couple of notable Norwegians -- dance music producer Lindstrøm and Emil Nikolaisen of Serena-Maneesh -- on Runddans, an album that is one 39-minute long track that's been broken down into 12 parts. That will be out May 5 via Smalltown Supersound.

You can watch a short video interview with Rundgren about it, with the artwork, tracklist, list of tour dates, and some classic Todd, below...
