Tokyo Police Club share new single, played Chicago w/ Matt & Kim (pics)

Tokyo Police Club haven’t released a proper LP since 2014’s Forcefield, but the band has recently shared details teasing an upcoming album. The band announced that they’ve recently spent time in the studio with producer Rob Schnapf, who also worked on their 2010 album Champ. Bassist/singer David Monks described the band’s newfound approach to songwriting and recording, most of which was done in a church:

It was exciting to hear ourselves in such a big space like that, the drums ring out, the guitars blend and swirl. I think it really affected the arrangements and songwriting. We started to favour simple rhythms, slower tempos (relatively speaking) and energy over details. It was really liberating.

While further info on the upcoming LP will be released soon, the band has just shared a new single “New Blues,” which finds the band implementing the aforementioned slower songwriting techniques. You can hear the track below.

The band is currently on tour with Matt & Kim and Future Feats, and they played Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Tuesday (4/17). You can view pictures from the show in the above photo gallery, and stream recent Matt & Kim single “Glad I Tried,” which features Santigold, below.

The tour lands in NYC for two Brooklyn Steel shows later this month. All Tokyo Police Club dates are listed below.
