Torres @ Glasslands - 9/25/13
Former Nashvillian Torres (the grunge folk project of Mackenzie Scott) officially made the move to Brooklyn recently, and Mackenzie and her ace band played their first show in their new hometown last month (9/25) at Glasslands. It was a headlining date in the midst of their tour with Okkervil River, and featured opening sets by Frances Cone and Wet (not Natureboy, who was initially billed). A belated set of pictures from that show is in this post.
All three artists who were on that bill are also playing CMJ this week. Torres plays Pete's Candy Store today (10/17) at 7:40 PM, and as discussed, she'll also be on our BrooklynVegan Saturday party (noon-10 PM) at Baby's All Right (146 Broadway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). She's on at 6 PM and plays along with Ex Hex (Mary Timony's new band), Superchunk's Mac McCaughn, a special heavy guest, Hop Along, Yuck, Pity Sex, King Dude, Nothing, Courtney Barnett, and Spires. The party (like our Friday one) is totally FREE (no RSVP, no badges), and we hope to see you there!
Meanwhile, the R&B-leaning Brooklyn trio Wet, who just released a self titled EP via Neon Gold this week, have a few shows coming up. Those include FADER Fort today (10/17) and the Neon Gold showcase at Santos today (10/17). They also just announced a Mercury Lounge show to happen on November 21. Tickets for that show are on AmEx presale now and general on-sale begins Friday (10/18) at noon. Some streams from their EP are below.
Lastly, Frances Cone plays a free show at Rockwood Music Hall on Friday (10/18). She's on at 9 PM.
