FREE THROW / CHRIS FARREN / YOUTH FOUNTAIN / MACSEAL
Nashville-based emo band Free Throw toured earlier this year behind their great third LP What’s Past Is Prologue, but they’ll soon be hitting the road again beginning in August, bringing along Jeff Rosenstock associate Chris Farren, Vancouver band Youth Fountain, and NYC-based mathy punks Macseal. There’s two NYC-area stops in Brooklyn (Knitting Factory on 9/19) and Asbury Park, NJ (Asbury Park Brewery on 9/20), in addition to other stops in Dallas, Philly, Toronto, Austin, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and tons more. Following a summer European tour, Janelle Monae is heading back to the US for a newly-announced date at NYC’s Pier 17 in September.
THE RACONTEURS
The Raconteurs announced a very intimate NYC release show celebrating their upcoming LP Help Me Stranger, which is out later this month. This is their fourth NYC tour date overall.
PLAGUE VENDOR / NO PARENTS
West Coast garage punks Plague Vendor dropped their very catchy new LP By Night last month, and they’ll be supporting it on tour across North America later this year. Fellow California punks No Parents will be opening all stops, including Portland, NYC (Rough Trade on 10/10), Los Angeles, Seattle, Philly, Boston, Austin, Las Vegas, and tons more. Phony Ppl, who released mō’zā-ik. last year, have just announced their first North American headline tour, which kicks off September 6 in Washington, DC and also hits Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, L.A., Portland, Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, and more. (They also play the BAM R&B Festival and Summerstage in NYC before that.) Tickets go on sale Friday, June 14 — head here for all dates.
KAMASI WASHINGTON
Kamasi Washington is touring for most of the summer, playing shows all over the world, including Morocco, Belgium, Poland, Spain, Italy and more. He’s got North American dates with Herbie Hancock, and he’ll play Brooklyn’s Afropounk Festival at the end of August. He’ll also play Wilco’s Mexico destination festival in January, 2020. Kamasi has just added another NYC-area show: Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on August 1 which is pretty intimate for him these days and BrooklynVegan is proud to be presenting.
SLAUGHTER BEACH, DOG
Modern Baseball co-frontman Jake Ewald started Slaughter Beach, Dog as a solo project, but it’s since evolved into a full band, featuring Ian Farmer, also of Modern Baseball; Nick Harris of All Dogs; and Zack Robbins of Superheaven. They’ll support new album, Safe And Also No Fear, with a tour with Cave People and Early Animator in August and September.
PURE BATHING CULTURE
Portland-based synth duo Pure Bathing Culture (whose new LP Night Pass came out in April) recently wrapped up an East Coast tour leg with American Football, and while they don’t have a full headlining tour lined up at the moment, they’ll be playing a pair of one-off shows this summer. First, they’ll open for The Shins frontman James Mercer at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge on 6/24 (which has since sold out), before an in-store performance at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on 7/1. GLEN MATLOCK (THE SEX PISTOLS)
Former bassist for The Sex Pistols, Glen Matlock released new solo album Good to Go last year and is currently in the U.S. for a few shows this week. He plays NYC’s Joe’s Pub on Tuesday (6/11), L.A.’s Hotel Cafe on June 13 and Long Beach, CA’s Alex’s Bar on June 13.
KATAKLYSM / EXHORDER
Canadian death metal vets Kataklysm announced a North American tour behind last year’s Meditations, with support from fellow long-running metal acts Exhorder and Krisiun, along with California thrashers Hatchet. The tour hits Brooklyn’s Market Hotel on 9/23, with other stops in Poughkeepsie, Austin, Kansas City, Seattle, Atlanta, Baltimore, and many others. All dates here.
CANNABIS CORPSE
Following a spring run with Psycroptic, stoner metal trio Cannabis Corpse announced a series of Northeastern dates in July, at which the band is urging fans to “grab your bongs, blunts and beach towels and come out prepared to get killed by a rampaging mutated weed monster.” The band will stop in Queens (Blackthorn 51 on 7/14), Philly, Pittsburgh, and Harrisonburg, VA. The band also plays NYC’s upcoming Necrofest in September. Find all dates here.

British D-beat hardcore punk vets Warwound will be in the U.S. for shows in August surrounding Pittsburgh’s Skull Fest 2019 (which also includes Poison Idea, Sheer Terror, Dropdead, Rubella Ballet and more). Dates include NYC’s Brooklyn Bazaar on 8/18 with Porvenir Oscuro and Headsplitters, and then Boston on 8/19. All dates are here.
