TAME IMPALA
Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has been hard at work on the long-awaited follow up to 2015’s Currents, but in the meantime, the band has announced their first headlining shows of 2019, which includes Southeastern US stops in Nashville, Asheville, St. Augustine, and Miami in May, before some European dates happening throughout the summer. The band also has a few festival appearances lined up, including Coachella in April, in addition to Boston Calling, Spain’s Primavera Sound and Atlanta’s Shaky Knees in May. SUPERORGANISM
Superorganism were already set to play a few festivals this summer, including Coachella, Alabama’s Hangout Fest, and Boston Calling, but today they’ve announced a full US tour beginning in April. This includes an NYC-area show at Jersey City, NJ’s White Eagle Hall on 5/22, and further shows in Minneapolis, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Denver, St. Louis, Santa Fe, and tons more. IRON & WINE
Iron & Wine’s 2004 LP Our Endless Numbered Days turns 15 this year and, in addition to announcing a new, expanded edition of the record with demos and bonus tracks, Sam Beam will also be taking the album on the road for a brief 15th anniversary orchestral tour. These shows are happening at Cincinnati’s Taft Hall on 3/22 (w/ Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), Los Angeles’ Disney Hall on 3/24 (w/ LA Philharmonic) and Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center (date TBA w/ National Symphony Orchestra). THE BUDOS BAND
Funky, cinematic instrumental group The Budos Band have announced several US dates happening this April, beginning with two NYC shows at Bowery Ballroom on 4/5 and Music Hall of Williamsburg on 4/6, before heading off to do shows in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle with tickets on sale Friday (2/1). PURE BATHING CULTURE opening for LUCIUS
Portland’s Pure Bathing Culture have announced they’ll be touring the US as a duo for the very first time in May, where they’ll be opening for fellow indie pop duo Lucius, as part of their “Live Nudes Two” tour. The two acts will be making stops in Cincinnati, Madison, St. Paul, Santa Fe, Des Moines, Tucson, and several more cities. Lucius will also be opening for Jackson Browne’s upcoming NYC run at Beacon Theatre in June. Tickets for these shows go on sale Friday (2/1), and you can find all those dates here.
KINGS DESTROY
NYC hard rockers Kings Destroy are heading out on their first tour in two years, which features support from two other loud rock outfits: Louisiana’s Forming The Void and Boston’s GOZU. The tour hits Boston, NYC (Saint Vitus on 3/2), Kingston, Montreal, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and more. Tickets are expected to go on sale soon, and all dates are listed here.
RICHARD BUCKNER
Singer-songwriter Richard Buckner spent much of last year playing living room shows and he’ll continue to do that in 2019, but he’ll be playing show at a regular venue when he hits NYC’s Mercury Lounge on 2/22.
SIR BABYGIRL / SUNSPEAKER
Ahead of the release of her anticipated debut album Crush On Me, indie pop songwriter Sir Babygirl announced her very first Northeastern US headlining tour dates, which includes stops in Brooklyn (Baby’s All Right on 3/8), Philly, Portsmouth, and Boston. She’ll be supported by NYC-based electronic project Sunspeaker (who has his own NYC headlining show at Gold Sounds on 2/2). Tickets for those dates go on sale Friday (2/1) at 10 AM. JIM JAMES (FULL BAND SHOWS)
My Morning Jacket’s Jim James will be going a solo tour for last year’s Uniform Distortion taking place this May, where he’ll be backed by a full band, consisting of longtime friends Dave Givan, Kevin Ratterman, and Seth Kauffman. The tour hits several US cities including Philly, Chicago, Austin, Charleston, Minneapolis, and more. Openers for the tour are LA-based band Amo Amo (who have opened for My Morning Jacket in the past). Tickets go on sale Friday (2/1), with various presales beginning on Wednesday (1/30). One dollar from each ticket sale will be donated towards the Young Authors’ Greenhouse, an organization which works to inspire creativity in grade school students through writing. DAVE HAUSE
The Loved Ones frontman Dave Hause’s most recent release was last year’s September Haze EP, and he’s set to play tons of upcoming dates with his solo band The Mermaid this spring, which includes dates in Chicago, NYC (Rough Trade on 4/24), Boston, Minneapolis, Chicago, Toronto, and others, before a few European dates in Germany and Belgium. VIAGRA BOYS
Sweden’s Viagra Boys released the highly-underrated Street Worms late last year, and they’ve turned what was initially just NYC and L.A. shows around SXSW into a full North American tour. There are now two NYC shows — Elsewhere on 3/12 and Rough Trade on 4/5 — The band will be making further stops in Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Philly, Detroit, Washington D.C., and tons more, in addition to tons of European shows. They’ll also be appearing a few festivals this year, including SXSW in March, London’s All Points East in May, and Portugal’s NOS Primavera Sound in June. All dates are listed here.
HANDMADE FESTIVAL 2019 LINEUP
Leicester, UK’s Handmade Festival takes place on May 5 in the Leicester City Centre, and the fest has just added tons of bands to their lineup. Aside from a previously-announced appearance from The Futureheads (who are emerging from hiatus), other acts appearing at the festival include Metronomy, Ibibio Sound Machine, Mono, The Sherlocks, Black Honey, Jamie Lenman, C Duncan, Danny Goffey, and lots more. PSYCROPTIC / CANNABIS CORPSE
Tasmanian tech-death metal outfit Psycroptic announced an extensive US tour behind last year’s As the Kingdom Drowns, which features support from past tourmates and weed-loving death metal band Cannabis Corpse, in addition to other death metal acts Gorod and Micawber. The tour begins at NYC’s Gold Sounds on 4/12 (with Animist and Venom Spreader), before other stops in Rochester, Philly Chicago, San Diego, LA, Denver, and lots more. WESLEY STACE’S CABINET OF WONDERS
Wesley Stace will continue his recurring Cabinet of Wonders variety show at NYC’s City Winery, with the lineups for the next two shows already revealed, featuring some familiar faces along with some newer guests. The first upcoming date is on February 23, which features guests Justin Vivian Bond, Corporal Quorum, Jo Firestone, Dave Hill, Allison Moorer, Michael Shannon, and Curtis Stigers. The next date is on March 22 (tickets on sale soon), with guests Taylor Barton & G E Smith, Ophira Eisenberg, Jay Gonzalez (of Drive-By Truckers), Dave Hill, and more TBA. Low Dose, the new band featuring Legendary Divorce’s Itarya Rosenberg and all three former members of Fight Amp, has announced a full US tour supporting their upcoming self-titled debut LP, which is out in March. They’ll be hitting a bunch of cities along the Northeast in April, includig Philly, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Chicago, Montreal, and more, before a final stop at NYC’s Union Pool on 4/13.
