Tracyanne & Danny is a new collaborative project between singer-songwriters Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) and Danny Coughlan (Crybaby). Their self-titled debut is out May 25 via Merge. The pair met in 2013 as Tracyanne had heard Danny’s Crybaby album and invited him to open shows on Camera Obscura’s Desire Lines tour. They got along and informally discussed collaborating but, when keyboardist Carey Lander died in 2015, all band activity halted, as did this. Time passed and Tracyanne and Danny began talking about working together again, and here we are.

Orange Juice’s Edwyn Collins co-produced the record which was made at his Clashnarrow studios. The first single is “Home & Dry,” which has echoes of Camera Obscura’s melodic style, but is much mellower in execution with a woodwind-laden arrangement. “It’s about the movement of time, the inevitability of things not staying the same,” says Tracyanne of the song. “Just when you think things are sorted and ok, something changes and they no longer are.” Listen to that, and watch a trailer for the album, below

Tracyanne & Danny will be on tour this year as well, with a North American run in June that includes a stop at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on 6/19. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, March 2 at 10 AM. All tour dates are listed below.
