Tribeca Film Fest reuniting 'Taxi Driver' cast/crew for film's 40th anniversary, announces 'Tribeca Talks' series; De Niro doing stand-up in NYC this week
We already mentioned that the full film lineup for the Tribeca Film Festival, which is coming up on April 13-24, has been announced. Since then there’s been a bunch of other cool stuff announced. Among them, the fest will feature a 40th anniversary celebration of Martin Scorsese‘s seminal Taxi Driver, which of course stars Robert De Niro, who founded the festival (more on him later). The film will screen on April 21 at the Beacon Theatre and be followed by a conversation with De Niro, Scorsese, actors Jodie Foster and Cybill Shepard, and writer Paul Schrader. This is an extremely rare opportunity to see all these people in one place, and tickets will be on sale Thursday (3/24) at 10 AM.
In other news, the festival has announced the “Tribeca Talks” lineup, which gives the chance to hear wisdom and insight from many, many people who are more successful than you. This year’s participants include JJ Abrams, Tom Hanks, Andrea Aronld, Francis Ford Coppola, David Byrne, Tina Fey, Anthony Bourdain, Alfonso Cuaron, Jodie Foster, Patti Smith, Joss Whedon, Idina Menzel, Olivia Wilde and many more. These are all one-on-one talks, often with celebrity interviewers, like Chris Rock talking to JJ Abrams, John Oliver talking to Tom Hanks, or Mark Ruffalo talking to Joss Whedon. And, as promised, some more De Niro news. The former King of Comedy is working on a new movie called The Comedian, in which he plays an aging insult comic. For the purposes of this movie, De Niro will be performing standup at the Village Underground on Tuesday (3/22). The set, which is sadly sold out, will be filmed, with jokes written by roast master Jeff Ross.
