Tricky brought ‘Skilled Mechanics’ to Webster Hall with Rituals of Mine (pics)
Tricky brought his Skilled Mechanics tour to NYC on Friday for a show at Webster Hall. Backed by a drummer and guitarist (with a fair amount of backing tracks), Tricky was in an anxious mood the whole night, staying busy with a mic in each hand, which didn't stop him from fidgeting with his tank top for the entire show. With his current band -- this was billed as Tricky Presents Skilled Mechanics -- Tricky's live sound veers into late-'90s alt-rock territory (and a little '00s nu-metal too). Despite the new LP featuring a bunch of vocalists, there were no special guests at Webster Hall and the setlist stuck mainly to material from this decade -- alas no "Pumpkin" at this Halloween Weekend show.
Those looking for a little more of Tricky's early-'00s trip hop sound got it with openers Rituals of Mine (fka Sister Crayon), which features the powerhouse vocals of Terra Lopez (and a seriously skilled drummer). Pictures from their set, and more of Tricky, are in the above gallery.
