Two dead and eight injured after South Carolina nightclub shooting

Two people died and eight were injured in a shooting at a South Carolina nightclub early Sunday morning (7/5), The Associated Press reports. Lavish Lounge, located in Greenville, SC, hosted a show with Georgia rapper Foogiano, who is signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records, on Saturday night.

Lt. Jimmy Bolt said that two Greenville County sheriff’s deputies noticed a disturbance at the club shortly before 2 AM, including the sound of gunfire and a large crowd of people running out. After getting backup from The Greenville Police Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol, Bolt said they found four people inside who had been shot; others were already in route to the Prisma Health Hospital in Greenville on their own.

The eight injured attendees are listed in “various conditions,” Bolt said.

A booking representative confirmed to The Associated Press via text message that Foogiano and his team are safe.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said there was a “very, very, very, large crowd” at Lavish Lounge for the show, WYFF 4 reports. He continued, “There’s a lot of shell casings inside. Everything is turned over. There are a few chairs in there, food on the floor, some bottles busted. You can tell somebody left in a hurry. There are some pretty large amounts of blood.”

The sheriff’s office is looking for two suspects, Bolt said, but did not currently have either in custody.

Like much of the rest of the country, large indoor gatherings are currently banned in South Carolina due to COVID-19, and it’s currently under investigation as to whether show organizers had gotten an exception to put on the event.

As CNN reports, in a Facebook message that’s since been deleted, Lavish Lounge wrote, “Due to the outcome of (tonight’s) event all future events have been postponed until further notice. We will update you as time progresses!!”
