U.S. Girls brought her tour to NYC last week for two shows with She-Devils. We caught the Baby's All Right show on Friday (5/13), which Bayonne opened. She-Devils kicked off the show, with a set of their Lynchian, atmospheric pop that made for a great combo with the two acts that followed.
Bayonne (aka Roger Sellers) mostly plays by himself and a table of electronics, but he was a lot more exciting to watch than a lot of other guys who do that. He was constantly dancing and gesturing at components of his table as if conducting an orchestra, and then heading over to a drumkit on the side of the stage and looping his live drums and vocals.
As she's been at a lot of her sets lately, main U.S. Girls member Meg Remy was joined by another singer for the whole set, and her husband Slim Twig joined her on guitar for a few songs. Both singers had a massive stage presence, and had no trouble commanding the packed, sold-out crowd without any help from a backing band. It was a great show.
