As the sun set on the Meadowlands and Trump’s travel ban 2.0 went into effect Thursday night, Bono remained steadfast in his belief that America is a nation of immigrants.

“This city, this country has given us Irish safety and sanctuary for hundreds of years,” Bono said. “We would like to say thank you.”

It was U2’s second night at MetLife Stadium in honor of the 30th anniversary of their seminal album “The Joshua Tree.”

Bono also invoked Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a semi-prayer for this turbulent political era.

Irish rock megastars U2 continued their The Joshua Tree 30th anniversary tour on Thursday (6/29) with their second night at NJ’s MetLife Stadium. Like they did on Wednesday, the band opened with a five-song non-Joshua Tree medley at the end of the runway podium, deep into the crowd, before making their way to main from stage in front of an enormous, 8K illuminated Joshua Tree silhouette against a blood-red sky.

The band played their 1987 classic album from start to finish, took a quick break and returned for more, including “Ms Sarajevo” from the Passengers soundtrack, “Beautiful Day,” “Vertigo” and then a trio of songs from Atchung Baby (“Ultraviolet,” “Mysterious Ways,” and “One”) (where he had a crowd member join him on stage for a dance). Setlist is below and photos from Thursdays show are in the gallery above.

Thanks to a state fair that was happening at the same time, there was some serious gridlock on the roads this week. U2 wrap up the North American leg of The Joshua Tree tour in Cleveland on Saturday (7/1) and then head to Europe.
