Vanessa Carlton preps Dave Fridmann-produced LP, going on 1st full-band tour in 15 yrs

Vanessa Carlton completed the transition from radio-friendly piano-pop singer to indie singer/songwriter on 2015’s Dine Alone-released Liberman, and she’s now finally set to follow that album with her first LP in five years, Love Is An Art, due this spring. This one was produced by frequent Flaming Lips collaborator Dave Fridmann, and first single “Future Pain” is a lovely dose of folk-tinged indie pop that proves Vanessa is still full of creative juice, nearly two decades removed from the height of her fame. Listen and watch its Joshua Shoemaker-directed video below.

Vanessa has also announced a tour with Jenny O, and it’ll be her first full-band tour in 15 years. It includes a show at City Winery New York on April 19. Tickets for that show will be on sale soon. All dates are listed below.

In related news, Deer Tick’s John McCauley (who Vanessa is married to and has collaborated on music with plenty of times) announced a show happening at the City Winery in Nashville (where he and Vanessa live) on February 25 (tickets). He’s also promising special guests. Will she be one?
