Andy Cabic of the San Francisco based group Vetiver has given us his Top Ten Songs To Listen To While Coming Up With Lists of Ten Songs To Listen To Mixtape! With a number of rare folk and country based singer songwriter tunes interspersed with the likes of John Cale, The Beau Brummels and Ms. Skeeter Davis, this is a supremely unique and must have mixtape for those who love unknown gems. Tickets are on sale for a Vetiver / Phosphorescent show at Bowery Ballroom on August 2nd and for one the very next day at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Those are the only dates I see that both bands are playing together, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more get announced.
Vetiver‘s next album Thing Of The Past is a “set of cover versions of songs by some of band-leader Andy Cabic’s favourite artists”. It’s being released soon on Gnomonsong which is the label run by Andy and Devendra Banhart. One of the songs is a cover of Michael Hurley’s “Blue Driver” and you can download that above.
Phosphorescent is currently touring Europe. Vetiver is on the West coast, but they’ll be in Europe soon too. All dates for everyone below….
