Tuesday night (7/11) at Beacon Theatre was the 2017 "GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends" -- an awards ceremony and concert that honored this year's 2017 Merit Awards recipients. Among those recipients were The Velvet Underground. "The establishment caught up with us at last," joked John Cale accepting the award, and then he and his band performed VU classics "Sunday Morning" and "I'm Waiting for the Man." Surprise: he brought Moe Tucker with him who played percussion. Watch video clips of the performance, and Cale and Tucker accepting the award, below.

The other 2017 honorees were Shirley Caesar, Ahmad Jamal, Charley Pride, Jimmie Rodgers, Nina Simone, and Sly Stone. Performances included Caesar, Pride, Dionne Warwick, Dwight Yoakam, jazz pianist Stanley Cowell, Andra Day (who paid tribute to Nina Simone), Kirk Franklin, Randy Newman (who paid tribute to Mo Ostin), Catherine Russell, Valerie Simpson, and Charlie Wilson (paying tribute to Sly Stone). Paul Shaffer was the night's host. Check out a few videos from the rest of the Grammy Salute to Music Legends concert below.
