Harry Styles

Warpaint, Kacey Musgraves & Leon Bridges opening Harry Styles' tour

One Direction’s Harry Styles released his debut solo album last month, which is quite a departure from his time as a boy bander and it’s nothing like former 1D member Zayn Malik’s cool-guy R&B attempt either. It turns out that Harry Styles doesn’t just do a pretty good Mick Jagger impersonation, he also aspires to write his own classic rock songs. His album has obvious echoes of the Stones, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Elton John, The Beatles, and a handful of other ’60s and ’70s rockers. Harry doesn’t necessarily do classic rock any better than like, Jet, but if this album helps turn kids on to Harry’s very obvious influences, then it’s hard to hate on it.

Another way Harry may turn people on to cool music is with the surprisingly cool openers he has opening on his just-announced 2018 tour. Some are with soul revivalist Leon Bridges and others are with country singer Kacey Musgraves, which aren’t too surprising — both are major label artists and Kacey has already toured with Katy Perry — but here’s the real shocker: indie pop band Warpaint are on select dates.

The run with Kacey Musgraves hits NYC on June 21, 2018 at Madison Square Garden. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, June 16 at 10 AM with various presales beforehand.

Before the 2018 tour, Harry has some smaller 2017 dates, including NYC’s Radio City Music Hall on September 28 with alt-pop band MUNA, whose debut album About U is getting some buzz this year. That show is sold out.
