Washington state cult duo Donnie & Joe Emerson playing NYC

Dreamin Wild

Donnie & Joe Emerson‘s self-released 1979 album, Dreamin’ Wild, got a moment in the spotlight last year when Light in the Attic reissued the record and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti covered their song “Baby,” which ended up being the first single from Mature Themes. Made in a studio on the family farm, Dreamin’ Wild has achieved outsider art status and if you’ve never heard it you can stream it via Spotify and check out a great short documentary on the Emersons below.

Since their album (the only one they ever made) got reissued, Donnie & Joe have played a few reunion shows, including one opening for Rodriguez in Seattle last year. But nothing really outside of the Pacific Northwest. We haven’t heard of a full tour, but Donnie & Joe Emerson are playing Mercury Lounge on June 29 with “special guests.” Tickets go on AmEx presale on Wednesday (5/8) and the regular on-sale happens Friday (5/10) at noon.
